Numbers 1-2: More Than Just a Number

In this episode, we cover the book of Numbers’ overview as well as Numbers 1-2. As Susan and Heather will explain, the book of Numbers is not so much about math but more about the story of how God faithfully led Israel through the wilderness despite their rebellion.

HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:

My Bible bender was the analogy of the book of Numbers to a marriage. Susan said it this way, “the story of the relationship between the Israelites and God very much resembles a courtship, wedding, and marriage. In Genesis and Exodus, God chooses and pursues the Israelites in love and explains his intent: to dwell among them only. In Leviticus, God lays out the plan for how they will live together. This is where the wedding ends and the marriage begins. This is where the Israelites relationship with God will be tested. As we begin in Numbers, we open in the honeymoon phase, all excited and ready to take a trip to their new life. Israel is getting organized and packed for the journey.”

That was so realistic and being just one-year married, all of those stages are still so fresh to me. I love the analogy of transitioning from courtship to marriage. What stood out to you in this first episode of Numbers?

What was your Bible bender? Did you learn anything new?
