Exodus 6 and 7:
Before now, Exodus identified who God will use to deliver the Israelites from the Egyptians. Now, in Exodus 6 and 7, our story turns to how God will deliver the Israelites—i.e. plagues. (And they aren’t pretty.) God doesn’t just send one plague, but ten in order to show his power and get through Pharaoh’s stubborn pride.
HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:
While all the plagues have interesting findings to discover, my Bible bender for the week correlates the Plague of Blood. Specifically, the parallel found between the Plague of Blood and other passages in the Bible:
There is a parallel between the blood and the Red Sea
- The plague of blood is the beginning of Israel’s deliverance
- The death of the Egyptians in the Red Sea is the end of Israel’s deliverance
- The blood of the plague in the Nile will soon become the blood of the Egyptians in the Read Sea
- The entire story is bookended by these two acts of God using water to save his people.
- This foreshadows Jesus, the ultimate savior of people, providing living water.
When laid out, it is such a clear parallel but I never considered it before! Without Susan pointing this out, I don’t think I would have made that many connections to the Red Sea.
What jumped out at you? What was your Bible bender from Exodus 6 or 7?
