Deuteronomy 27 and 28
This episode covers Deuteronomy 27 and 28! These chapters transition us from Moses’ Do It sermon to his 3rd sermon we lovingly titled “To Choose God.”
HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:
While maybe not on a Bible bender level, I loved learning about blessings and curses in this episode. Susan says, “Genesis and Deuteronomy bookend the Torah and the theme of blessing and curses appears more in these 2 books than anywhere else in the Torah or the Bible. In Genesis and Deuteronomy, God’s blessing is an invitation to be fruitful and multiply, starting in the Garden, and when that is no longer possible, in the Promised Land. A curse is the opposite of a blessing, but it is not a vindictive punishment from God. When people choose to reject the blessing of life (as they did in the Garden), they automatically choose death. They trade God’s blessing, his creation in order and abundance, for curses or chaos that sin brought into the world at the fall. When people make choices that separate them from God, the source of all life, it puts them at risk for death and destruction.”
I think often society thinks curses are vindictive punishment from God so I liked this new perspective on why they really exist.
What was your Bible bender from Deuteronomy 27? Did you learn anything new?
