2 Samuel 2-3: One Kingdom, Two Kings: David Fights to Unite

In 2 Samuel 2, we see David pray. This is not the first time David will inquire of the Lord, nor will it be the last. The key to David’s success in accomplishing God’s purpose is that he prays first. None of the Old Testament characters we have discussed and will discuss in future seasons was perfect. However, those who prayed first found favor with God and made choices that aligned with God’s will: Abraham, Moses, Hannah, Nehemiah, and Daniel are all great examples. David is undoubtedly the best example because we have his prayers in print. David wrote them down in the Psalms.

David had a heart for God because David knew God’s heart. Through his word and through time spent with God in prayer. You cannot know someone’s heart without spending time with them in a relationship. David had a relationship with God. Read the Word and pray and you will know God’s heart.
