Deuteronomy 1
In this episode, we cover Deuteronomy 1. In this new book, instead of following Israel’s journey to the Promised Land, we hear Moses’ final instructions to his people before he passes away. He takes the wisdom gained in his 120 years of life and passes on some warnings to the younger generations. Deuteronomy 1 begins the first of three sermons or passionate speeches Moses will give in his last month of life. Will the Israelites listen and apply what he warns them about in the future? Or will they stray without Moses’ being at the helm? Please stick with us as we find out!
HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:
I got excited about this season when I heard this episode. This book, which I have never studied in depth, may have been one of Jesus’ favorites. What have I been missing? I can’t wait to find out. The fact that Deuteronomy is quoted in all but six books of the Bible is fascinating. This book has heavy application in both the Old and New Testaments. Moses has spent 40 years leading this nation, and he knows his time leading is almost gone–what will he say?
I was also curious to see the varying views of Moses’ tone in giving this sermon in Deuteronomy 1. Susan thinks his tone was more parental than frustrated and angry. What is your opinion?
What was your Bible bender from Deuteronomy 1? Did you learn anything new?
