In this episode, we cover Numbers 17-18. Here we see God verify Aaron as his choice for High Priest for the 3rd and final time. This time God is going to give the people a visible reminder, a staff. Along with this verification, we see the duties for the priests and Levites laid out again along with a new mention regarding tithes.

My Bible bender of these passages came through the understanding of the act of redeeming the firstborn.
Susan explained it this way, “The priests get the first born, or they get the dollar value of the firstborn. In the case of a firstborn child, the child was redeemed in dollars as the Levites were the firstborn replacements for all the other tribes. The firstborn was a perpetual reminder that birth and life were gifts from God. Since Jesus was the firstborn of Mary, he had to be redeemed. He, then became the Redeemer for all.”
As I had never studied the law of the Old Testament in depth, this understanding of the firstborn and how that related to Jesus never came to mind. It is just an amazing connection that the Jews at the time of Jesus would understand deeply.
